Adobe Is Being Sued by the U.S. Federal Government

It’s time for this company to get cut down to size

Software company Adobe is having a rough month, and I am delighted that their shady practices have finally caught up with them.

As a graphic designer, I trained on Adobe products, in the days when you could actually buy and own the software. It was still prohibitively expensive, but you could get a student discount when you were taking design classes, so that helped.

Adobe updated their software every year, but you could still use the previous versions. That was great for us poor freelancers.

I opted out hard when Adobe switched to a subscription based service in 2011. There was no way I could afford to pay $70 a month to use Creative Suite. As a freelancer, I’d be lucky to make that much for one simple job. Adobe was squeezing designers HARD.

I started using Affinity software shortly after it debuted in 2014. Affinity began with their Designer program, added Photo, and finally added Publisher. Together, the 3 programs make an effective replacement for Adobe’s Creative Suite.

Adobe recently updated their terms of service, and unleashed the full wrath of their users. The new terms gave Adobe the right to view, use, modify, alter, and use the content…
